9 Pages Your Squarespace Website Absolutely Must Have

Wondering where to start with the structure of your new website?

Not sure what all you need to have to make the most of your website? Or what your community needs to know before investing in your product or service?

Let’s go through…

everything you need to have on your website, plus a couple of bonus extras.

All websites should have:

  1. Home — this is where most people coming to your website will land. It should act as a directory to help point visitors in the right direction to whatever they might be looking for (blog, about, services, products, etc).

  2. About — this is an opportunity for you to spotlight your personality and your expertise!

  3. Blog / Podcast — Content marketing is really important for Search Engine Optimization (SEO, meaning it can help people find you). More importantly, it can also help people connect with you and trust in your expertise. It shows you know your shit. You can also use SEOSpace to help with this.

  4. Social Links — Most social media platforms only allow you to have one link in your bio. This is why tools like LinkTree are so popular, but why send your traffic to them, when you can make your own social links page on your website?

  5. Contact Page — People need to know where to find you, what hours you’re available, and how to get in touch. I typically put a link to this page in the footer of websites I design.

  6. 404 (error page) — Squarespace provides a really basic error page for all it’s websites, but by creating a custom one you can stop people from leaving your website by inviting them to search for what they were looking for or to read your latest blog post or shop your most popular products!

  7. Privacy Policy — Privacy policies are a requirement of the General Data Protection Regulation (applies to everyone who serves any visitors in the EU). I’m no lawyer, so here’s a few resources for getting a great privacy policy:

Service Providers:

  1. Services — This should be a whole page dedicated to showcasing the ways people can buy from you. Whether you have a couple of packages or a few different ways to engage with you (classes, group programs, one-on-one services, etc). It should be clean and have distinct calls to action for each offer so that people can take the next step!

  2. Work with Me — This is distinct from the services page because it should only contain 2 things:

    1. A call to action (for me it’s book a free consultation)

    2. An overview of what people can expect from the process of working with you

    3. (Annnnd… maybe add a testimonial).

E-commerce:

  1. Shop — Obviously if you sell physical or digital products, this is the most important part of your website. It should be tidy, well categorized, as accessible as possible and I’d recommend detailed product descriptions and having plenty of photos of each item. Did you know that Squarespace has product variants to keep you from having to create duplicate products for different colors, sizes, etc?

  2. Shipping & Returns Policy — This should clearly state shipping timelines and how the returns process works. See the Privacy Policy section above for some great resources for other legal policies, including commerce policies like these.

Optional extras:

  • Events — If you host events, I recommend using Squarespace’s native events page and then using a tool like Lu.ma to manage the tickets and emails and such. This can be embedded into the events pages or simply linked with a button.

  • Portfolio / Case Studies — The more social proof you can provide about how great you are at what you do the better. So if you can display your photography, website designs, or whatever if you create in a portfolio Squarespace has specialized pages for this. It also can be a great way to organize case studies.

  • Testimonials / Client Love — Again with the social proof. While you should have testimonials sprinkled throughout your website, sometimes it can be great to have a designated area for them as well!

  • Members Area — Want to create some form of members only content? Squarespace’s members areas work really well for courses, group programs, subscription content, and more!

  • Values Statement — While this is last on the list, I want to emphasize that Businesses that care are something that people are craving! So whatever it is you care about, make sure you showcase your values, inclusivity and integrity here. Throw in some visuals for good measure! This could be a stand alone page (like mine) or it could be a section of your Home or About page.
