CEO Who? Imposter Syndrome & Behind-the-Scenes Chaos
Is imposter syndrome creeping up because you feel like you don’t have your shit together behind the scenes?
This is a sentiment that comes up a lot.
I guess it's that people often feel like they're not really a business owner because their back end, their operations, the way that they do business feels messy or feels maybe not professional enough or not together enough, right?
That's really, really, really normal.

It comes up with me and my clients a lot. And I think the thing is you grow to a point in a business, where it's okay to be sort of piecing things together. You can't have all the systems and all the processes put together from the very moment you start your business.
As we all know, the first couple years of business are really about throwing spaghetti at the wall, and seeing what will stick. Seeing what feels right and what feels aligned. And how we want to market, who we want to work with, and what we want to charge.
And so, it totally makes sense to just piece together what's working at any given moment.
And then, a few years in, you hit a wall because you kind of go, “Oh my gosh, I've run out of capacity, headspace, energy, time. There's got to be a better way to do this!” But then you think, “oh, nobody should see the fact that I don't have it together. So I just need to kind of keep paddling my head above water and making it work.”
But the thing is first of all, not everybody is going to be the absurdly organized freak that I am, right? I now wear that badge very, very proudly, but that comes from a place of a coping mechanism that has turned into a superpower.
And not everybody can be as organized or as Monica Geller as I am, right?
But that does not mean that you do not get to benefit from organization and systems in your business. Just because your brain doesn't work that way, it doesn't matter.
Let me say that again. Just because systems in order may not be natural to you, or maybe you can't see the woods for the trees because you've been in your business for so long. It does not mean that you don't get to benefit from the levels of organization that you can have in your business.
There are smarter ways to work. There's ways to work that make it so that your business can function on a higher level. There's ways to work that feel like there's less struggle and admin. There's ways to work that feel better aligned. And I firmly, firmly, firmly believe that there is no one size fits all approach to this.
So the benefit of The Simplicity Solution is that we dig in first. We make sure we have a lot of information about your business, the way you work, who you're working with, what systems you already have in place if they're working, if they're not working. We check in about the way you want to work — what the dreamiest version of all this is.
We do quite a lot of research before to make sure that we are meeting your needs really, really specifically.
The other thing I want to say is it would be so silly of me to have massive imposter syndrome, natural I would say, but still silly in a way to have imposter syndrome about the things that you are good at, right?
If you are a copywriter or if you have a beautiful art studio, I can't do those things very well! We all have our own gifts, and our own wheelhouses, and our own things that we have become masters of.
It is okay for this not to be yours. And yet, you so deserve to have a badass business that is functioning and working hard behind the scenes for you, and to be working smarter, not harder, and to be able to step away from your fucking laptop, like the CEO you are.
