SEOSpace: The Best Tool for Online Visibility with Your Squarespace Website
Today I wanted to talk about SEOSpace for Squarespace websites. In my roles as a website designer and systems designer, I often get asked a lot about the technical side of SEO.
It's a long game with a load of factors! I need to clarify that I'm not an SEO expert. And yet, in my work you have to be able to provide SEO optimized websites for your clients.
So at the start of 2023 I started using SEOSpace and have been thoroughly impressed. They've been continuously improving the software, and I'm excited to finally share it with you all now that I've been using it with my client sites for the last few months.
Note, some of these links are affiliate links. But I promise I only share brands I’ve used and trust!

Hey! Today I am coming to you for my
0:03
co-working space uh welcome back to the
0:06
calibrated Concepts YouTube channel
0:09
um today I wanted to talk about SEO
0:13
it's funny because I am obviously a
0:15
website designer along and a systems
0:17
designer and people ask me a lot of
0:20
times questions about SEO but the thing
0:23
is is I am not
0:25
an SEO expert at the end of the day that
Understanding SEO
0:28
is an incredibly Niche topic if you talk
0:31
to SEO experts there are literally
0:34
hundreds of variables that go into
0:37
search engine optimization and it can
0:40
get really
0:42
complicated to understand like what is
0:45
happening so and the best things you can
0:48
do for your SEO
0:49
so while obviously I was putting in a
0:52
lot of best practices and I still put in
0:54
a lot of pretty much as many best
0:55
practices as I can into websites uh that
0:58
I design SEO is really a long game and
Squarespace SEO Features, Trialing a New SEO Tool
1:02
for a long time while Squarespace had
1:04
some really good built-in features for
1:06
SEO there was nothing to really help you
1:10
to optimize to get better
1:12
but if you weren't
1:14
re if you didn't really know where to
1:16
start or you weren't an SEO person
1:20
um I have been trialing this tool for
1:22
the last several months and I'm really
1:24
excited to talk about SEO space and I've
1:26
been using it in my business I've used
1:28
it with clients
1:29
um and I just want to show you a walk
1:31
through show you what I've done show you
1:33
how I think through certain things on my
1:35
website
1:37
um and they're just improving and
1:40
improving the software as it goes and I
1:44
cannot wait to see how it's going to
1:46
continue to improve my business my
1:49
clients businesses and the people around
1:50
it so let's hop in
1:52
okay so this is SEO of course SEO spaces
SEO Space and how it works
1:56
site and you can see they build their
1:59
own site on Squarespace because their
2:01
own plugin is working here and so
2:05
you can install the plugin here I'm
2:07
going to hop directly into things I
2:09
don't want to spend too much time on
2:10
their side but their site is really good
2:12
for um
2:14
discuss showing you a bit about how it
2:16
works but I'm going to show you how it
2:17
works one-on-one um I just have to say I
2:19
do love their branding them
2:21
so
2:23
in the dashboard they have a lot of
2:26
really good tutorials and things like
2:28
that so in here you can see I've got
2:29
scans of my website about my average SEO
2:32
score which has gone up so it's using
2:33
this tool which is great and I get 10
2:36
free scans a month and then when I'm
2:38
using it with my clients I can pay for
2:40
more scans or be on one of their paid
2:43
plans
2:44
um so I can either buy them as a one-off
2:46
or I can join their subscription base I
2:48
think down the line I will definitely be
2:50
on their subscription plan I just
2:52
haven't needed to just yet
2:55
so they give you uh insights here so I'm
2:58
able to look at my score and I have
3:02
previous to this I had some different
3:04
websites for different clients on here
3:06
but I deleted them for the purposes of
3:08
this video and my clients privacy and so
3:12
you can see but they do have in here
3:14
they have tutorials
3:16
um and this is going to log me in
3:19
to
3:21
Circle account so um
3:24
just
3:28
okay so they use
3:30
um Circle for their community and their
3:32
courses and everything so they have a
3:34
really good Community Forum in here with
3:38
how to use the tool there's a course
3:41
there's courses about SEO in general
3:44
um
3:45
product announcements they give you all
3:47
the updates their emails are also really
3:48
good so I actually don't spend a lot of
3:50
time in here because a lot of this
3:52
content I get via email and
3:54
um so it's really really good
3:57
so that's really really helpful and
3:59
support a lot of this I think goes to
4:01
the same
4:03
place yes exactly so these two things
4:05
but it will give you so both of these
4:07
have happened the support and tutorials
4:09
happen in circle which is really really
4:12
helpful not Squarespace Circle by the
4:14
way Circle which is a separate tool
4:17
um and then so what I like is that when
4:20
I'm on my website you'll see
4:22
um because I have this extension here
4:24
I have the ability to toggle this off
4:27
and on which is great because I often
4:30
would have to like screenshot projects
4:32
that I work on for promotional purposes
4:34
for my portfolio those kinds of things
4:37
um so and sometimes it just can be
4:39
distracting too
4:40
so once it's toggled on you can either
4:42
go to this dashboard and it will open up
4:43
the one I have here
4:46
um or you can go ahead and
4:50
start working under
4:52
booking so I can go to if you're in your
4:56
site or any Squarespace site
4:58
um you'll be able to see this in here
5:00
and open up the scan
5:03
um also and it's a little slow but it's
5:05
doing a lot of work so just be patient
5:07
with it
5:08
um so you can see it's already five
5:10
percent better than the last time I
5:11
scanned it
5:13
um and that's that's just this time I
5:14
haven't rescanned it on the for the
5:16
purposes of this just yet
5:19
um but then so I want to show you
5:21
through what it should walk you through
5:22
for basic suggestions it obviously is
5:24
trying to promote getting me onto the
5:26
premium so it shows those first
5:29
um but it does tell me things like my
5:31
SEO title probably should be a little
5:33
bit longer and but I have one so it
5:36
knows that that's good so I probably
5:37
should increase my SEO title which I'll
5:39
do after this call
5:41
and some of my images are too big so I
5:44
should run these through squoosh and so
5:46
that's another project for for me to do
5:49
my images have alt tag so it knows that
5:52
and my heading one is a little bit too
5:55
long now I really like my heading one so
5:57
it's probably not changing but it is
5:59
something to note it's only seven
6:01
characters longer than they're
6:02
recommended so I'm just gonna leave it
6:03
be and it knows that I have an SSL
6:06
certificate that my links are all set to
6:08
open
6:08
tab meta description what I love is
6:12
this one
6:14
um or I think it's missing somewhere
6:15
somewhere in here under links I think it
6:17
is
6:18
it will tell you if you have any broken
6:21
links so I have it's not showing me both
6:24
of these but you can see it says two of
6:25
two so if you have broken links it will
6:27
help you know where those are and fix
6:29
them
6:31
um it will so it's really really helpful
6:33
for those types of things
6:35
um there's things I can definitely do
6:37
like I will be increasing my SEO title
6:39
and I will be going through and
6:41
squeezing because a few of my images so
6:43
totally useful
6:45
um information for me here
6:48
and then I can scan more and more of my
6:50
pages so you can see it will recommend
6:52
pages that I should scan
6:54
um because these are pages that are
6:56
really common so these are blog posts
6:58
each of them these are my most popular
7:00
blog posts so it wants me to run a scan
7:02
and find out how to make them better
7:03
which is another thing that I definitely
7:05
will be doing
7:07
um it allows you to integrate Google
7:09
search consoles so you can start looking
7:10
at keywords and things like that so it's
7:13
really really helpful
7:15
um and so I will probably after this
7:19
call I will go ahead and increase my
7:22
home page
7:24
um
7:25
or my you know in Squarespace it's your
7:27
website overall
7:30
um
7:30
metadata so I will be changing this SEO
7:33
title and rescanning
7:36
I can also see scans that I've done over
7:39
time you can see the Improvement and
7:41
they're obviously trying to give me
7:43
upgrade and teach me about keywords and
7:45
keyword volume but you can see the
7:47
little fun error that said I've
7:48
increased five percent I can see
7:50
previous scans and see Improvement on
7:52
improvement over time as I scan for
7:55
different pages this is a relatively new
7:58
feature feature but you can see that in
8:00
July they obviously I where I was
8:02
started to be able to see this
8:03
Improvement across my site
8:07
um I started using this I believe in
8:09
January when I redid my whole site so
8:11
I've been using it now for
8:13
several months and making slow but
8:16
steady improvements on my site
8:18
so really really helpful
8:22
um to be able to go in here and just see
8:24
the different things so let's I'll show
8:25
you if I were to scan one of these blog
8:27
posts that it wants me to scan
8:30
what this does so let's go create a link
8:32
tree and Squarespace
8:33
and so it's going to go ahead and open
8:35
this live in my actual site
8:38
and I imagine we might have some SEO
8:40
problems
8:41
with the fact that I have a custom
8:43
sidebar here from sqsp themes it's
8:47
essentially two pages on one so we'll
8:49
see if there's any issues with that
8:52
um
8:52
because I have another page but you can
8:55
see it will jump around a little bit as
8:56
it goes through each of its checklist
8:58
pieces
9:00
um and
9:02
really helpful there so we'll already
9:04
have if I drop down I'll have some basic
9:06
so I haven't added in metadata for my
9:08
blog post clearly that's a problem
9:12
um my SEO title is a bit too long and it
9:16
wants me to shorten it but obviously
9:19
that search title is working really well
9:21
for me I probably wouldn't shorten it
9:22
because I'm getting a lot of traffic to
9:24
this blog post
9:26
um
9:28
your page has more than one heading one
9:30
so that's probably I should this pennant
9:32
is definitely a heading one that's
9:34
something I should fix and change that
9:35
to a heading two this is quite an old
9:38
blog post so this is something that I it
9:40
needs updated anywhere I really should
9:42
probably re-record this video so in
9:44
fluid engine so that's on my to-do list
9:46
for the quieter months later this year
9:51
um but all these other things are really
9:52
great my images have checked out my
9:53
links have checked out the indexing is
9:55
all good in the indexing that's showing
9:57
that it's in Google's console
10:00
so really really helpful tool to just
10:03
start walking through and getting more
10:04
familiar with the pieces of SEO that
10:07
make an impact it also is a way to kind
10:11
of keep an eye on the long game of SEO
10:15
um
10:15
their YouTube channel is also just full
10:19
of really good resources Henry's
10:21
recently been doing some really good
10:22
webinars which are really helpful
10:25
um I learned about things that I didn't
10:27
really know how to use and so he tells
10:30
you about other tools and about your
10:32
Authority level and I actually learned
10:35
that I have a higher authority level on
10:37
Google that I would have anticipated but
10:39
because I have lots of backlinks and
10:40
things like that to my website
10:43
so
10:44
um
10:45
I think that's really really helpful
10:47
when I'm doing SEO for clients I do some
10:49
keyboard research and then I actually
10:52
use chat GPT to create the metadata
10:55
um I don't feel like it's worth my time
10:57
I'm not a copywriter I'm not a technical
10:59
writer so I use chat jbt to create
11:03
um helpful page titles and page
11:06
descriptions with the in all important
11:09
keywords for each page so
11:11
um and like I said there's a lot of
11:13
really good Tools around keyboard
11:14
cannibalization to make sure you're not
11:16
using those same keywords on each page
11:18
and ruining your problem or ruining your
11:21
chances of ending up on the front pages
11:23
of Google Keyword volume making sure
11:25
you're using the right amount of those
11:27
keywords and suggested keywords which is
11:30
really helpful if you're using your
11:31
Google console it will help you to know
11:33
what keywords to use on those pages
11:35
which sometimes is one of the most
11:37
difficult things to figure out
11:40
um if you maybe have especially if you
11:42
have a newer site if you don't know what
11:44
people are searching for when they're
11:45
looking for you if you are in a
11:47
saturated market and this will all be
11:50
really really helpful
11:52
this tool is just getting better and
11:54
better
11:55
um since I've been a part of it I'm
11:56
really really looking forward to seeing
11:58
what you think and if you try it let me
12:01
know in the comments and if you have any
12:03
questions about it and and my experience
12:05
with it pop them in the comments and but
12:07
I really really think it is a really
12:09
useful tool for DIYs squarespacer
12:13
Squarespace agencies there's an agency
12:15
plan coming and there's lots and lots of
12:17
really cool features
12:19
um actually that's the last thing that
12:20
I'll probably show you before you go is
12:23
actually just what their plans look like
12:25
so
Subscription Plan
12:27
they have a couple different plans they
12:29
have the free plan and this is the one
12:32
I'm on you'll see then you have
12:34
um you get more scans and
12:38
um some additional features like we
12:40
talked about things like
12:41
keyword cannibalization keyword search
12:43
data
12:45
um use it on unlimited Squarespace
12:47
websites as opposed to I was had it on a
12:49
handful and didn't have any problem on
12:51
the free plan then they have a lot of
12:53
really good
12:55
um tools on the Pro Plan and then like I
12:59
said they do have an agency plan coming
13:01
down the line for people who might be
13:03
using this for their Squarespace agency
13:07
um really really handy it's making it's
13:09
changing the game to be honest and uh
13:11
they're actually collaborate have he's
13:13
just in an interview with squarespace's
13:15
CEO so that's cool too Squarespace is um
13:18
actually taking this on board and
13:20
you know I think they knew that this was
13:23
um something that needed to be done and
13:24
Henry and his team have done an
13:26
incredible job so I really appreciate
13:28
the tool and again let me know what you
13:30
think let me know if you have any
13:31
questions
